Our Mission

To help others discover the powerful intercession of Our Lady of Sorrows. To give witness to the healing power of God and to remind others that they have a Mother in Heaven who loves them dearly, knows and feels their pain, and has the desire to walk with them in their suffering. Our small role is simply providing a durable and attractive Rosary that acts as an encouragement to persevere in your daily prayers.

Our Story

Rather suddenly one day a few years ago I found myself in the middle of a spiritual battle that ended up lasting many months. At first I tried ignoring the situation, and then tried to pull myself up by my bootstraps so to speak. Eventually I knew I was in over my head and sought the assistance of a Priest and spiritual advisor. After hearing another Priest promote a devotion to Our Lady of Sorrows on a Catholic podcast and explaining the benefit of the 5th promise of the devotion (which is listed below), I asked my spiritual advisor if I should start praying the Seven Sorrows Rosary. He said yes and encouraged me to pray it daily. Within a few weeks of praying the Seven Sorrows Rosary I felt like a weight had lifted and for the first time in 9 months I did not have to force myself out of bed in the morning. Prior to this I was starting to lose hope and was often tempted to despair. Starting a devotion to Our Lady of Sorrows and praying the Seven Sorrows Rosary every day was a major turning point for me and marked the beginning of many graces received for my wife and I. Some time later my wife decided to take up the devotion after seeing how much Our Lady had done for me. Her intention going into the devotion was not for us to be healed of our struggles with infertility after 11 years of marriage, however two months later we found out we were pregnant! We later found out that many others have had similar experiences. These are just a few of the graces we have experienced. Our lives are not perfect, we still have crosses that we carry but Our Lady and Our Lord have been very generous to us. We could never repay Our Lady of Sorrows and Our Lord for their generosity but it is our hope to honor them by helping others come to experience this powerful devotion. Join us as we unite at The Foot Of The Cross and meditate on the Seven Sorrows of Our Lady! Our Lady of Sorrows please pray for us!

Our Designs & Name

One of the best gifts I have ever been given was a handmade paracord Rosary from my brother. It has held up well over the years and never leaves my side. Unable to find a similar option for a Seven Sorrows Rosary I decided to make my own. When crafting a spiritual weapon of this kind I had a few requirements. I wanted to have a St Benedict medal, and a Miraculous medal. When you have a Priest Bless your Seven Sorrows Rosary be sure to point out that it has both of these as there are specific prayers for each. I also wanted to have The Sacred Heart of Jesus which is located on the back of the Pardon Crucifix. There is much to say about each of these but a few notes:St. Benedict Medal - Includes the initial letters of a Latin prayer of exorcism.Miraculous Medal - Many graces are associated with this medal, and represents Our Lady crushing the head of the serpent. It also depicts Our Lady as Queen of Heaven and Earth. The Sacred Heart of Jesus - As told to St Margaret Mary of Alacoque Jesus revealed His Heart as a symbol of his boundless love for humanity but also emphasized the need for people to return His love through devotion and prayer. A great way to do so is with the First Friday Devotion. The paracord was a given as it provides the durability needed for daily use. When it came to the beads I wanted them to slide smoothly so we found some that were handmade in the Philippines. I also wanted just enough space between the beads so that you could feel the movement of the beads between Hail Mary's. For the Our Father beads I decided to go with stone to give the Rosary just a little more weight except for one design that has an unfinished wood bead that provides a different texture while transitioning from the Hail Mary bead to the Our Father. The hope is that these small refinements and details will help inspire you to pray the Seven Sorrows Rosary each day.The name Family Heirloom Rosary points to the importance of praying as a family and inviting Our Lady and Our Lord into our daily family life. An heirloom is often a family treasure that is passed down from generation to generation and that seemed fitting for so great a devotion. I also once heard a man say that after his funeral he has a Rosary that will be given to each of his loved ones with a note saying that he prayed for them on that specific Rosary. When you experience Our Lady's intersession you desire to pass that devotion on to those that you love, and you come to discover it is much more valuable than any earthly riches.

The Seven Promises Of Our Lady Of Sorrows

St. Bridget of Sweden (1303-1373) reported that Our Lady promised to grant seven graces to those that honor her and her Son Jesus by praying and meditating on her seven sorrows.1. "I will grant peace to their families."2. "They will be enlightened about the divine Mysteries."3. "I will console them in their pains and will accompany them in their work."4. "I will grant them as much as they ask for as long as it does not oppose the adorable will of my divine Son or the sanctification of their souls."5. "I will defend them in their spiritual battles with the infernal enemy and I will protect them at every instant of their lives."6. "I will visibly help them at the moment of their death. They will see the face of their mother."7. "I have obtained this grace from my divine Son: that those who propagate this devotion to my tears and sorrows will be taken directly from this earthly life to eternal happiness, since all their sins will be forgiven and My Son will be their eternal consolation and joy."

Brief History of The Seven Sorrows Devotion

According to Pelbart (Hungarian Franciscan friar, theologian, and preacher 1430-1504) it was revealed to St Elizabeth of Hungary (1207-1231) that St. John the Evangelist wanted to see Our Lady again after her Assumption into Heaven. She said that he was indeed given that opportunity when Mother Mary and Jesus appeared to him. When they appeared St John heard Mother Mary ask Jesus to grant special graces to those who are devoted to Her Sorrows. Based on this we can see this devotion goes back to the earliest days of the Church. The Four Principal Graces Jesus promised were:1. That those who before death invoke the divine Mother in the name of Her Sorrows will obtain true repentance of all their sins.2. That He will protect all who have this devotion in their tribulations, and will protect them especially at the hour of death.3. That He will impress on their minds the memory of His Passion, and will reward them for it in Heaven.4. That He will place such devout servants in Mother Mary's hands to do with them as She wishes, and to obtain for them all the graces She desires. It was in the 13th Century that the devotion began to start taking on its current form. In Florence, Italy seven holy men of noble birth who were friends and shared a devotion to Mother Mary founded a new order called Servants of Mary otherwise known as the Servite order. Their names were Buonfiglio dei Monaldi (Bonfilius), Giovanni di Buonagiunta (Bonajuncta), Amadeus of the Amidei (Bartolomeus), Ricovero dei Lippi-Ugguccioni (Hugh), Benedetto dell'Antella (Manettus), Gherardino di Sostegno (Sostene), and Alessio de'Falconieri (Alexius). At this time in history Florence was torn with political strife and full of heresy. On the feast of the Assumption while in prayer these men saw a vision of Our Lady and were inspired to leave their businesses and move outside the city walls to lead a life of prayer and penance devoted to Our Lady of Sorrows. They eventually ended up on Mont Senario similar to the background of this website. At Our Lady's request they undertook promoting this devotion which became the foundation of the Seven Sorrows Rosary.A few years later St Bridget of Sweden (1303-1373) reported the seven promises. In the 1700's St Alphonsus Liguori (1696-1787) wrote The Glories of Mary which included Discourse 9 Of The Dolours Of Mary. This includes a wonderful reflection on each of the Seven Sorrows of Our Lady that is well worth your time.During the Napoleonic wars Pope Pius VII (1740-1823) composed The Litany of the Seven Sorrows of Our Lady while being held captive. In the 1980's during the apparitions in Kibeho Our Lady assigned Marie Claire the mission of reintroducing the Seven Sorrows Rosary to the world after she said it had been largely forgotten. Marie Claire successfully spread the devotion teaching thousands of people before she was tragically killed along with over a million people in the genocide in Rwanda.
